Introduction
Sanah Nic Dwa Razy (W. Szymborska) Tekst – Sanah reached for Wisława Szymborska’s poem “Nic Dwa Razy”. This is one of this poet’s most famous poems, proclaiming that everything in life happens only once. The human fate is unique, exceptional, and one of a kind. We cannot relive, improve, or change anything; even if it were possible, with more experience and knowledge, we would still do things differently than before. “No day will be repeated, No two nights will be alike, No two will be the same kisses, No two will be the same looks in the eyes.”
The author reflects on love. He asks himself: what exactly is it? Later, he reflects on the passing of time and the possibility of stopping time. Dying is a painful experience for her, but also an inevitable moment.
The poem describes two states: before and after saying goodbye to a loved one. There is one conclusion: the nature of love is mysterious, elusive, and challenging to describe. Someone may love you today and abandon you tomorrow.
Full versions of songs in which Sanah used poems have now been released online: “Nothing Twice” by Wisława Szymborska, “Hymn” by Juliusz Słowacki, “Warszawa” by Julian Tuwim, “Bajka” by Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński, “Rozwojną Rilkego” by Jacek Cygan, “Do * in the album” by Adam Mickiewicz, “Eldorado” by Edgar Allan Poe and three texts by Adam Asnyk – “Stone,” “(I) God will give me a seat in a free Poland someday,” “(II) God will give me a seat in a free Poland someday”.
Sanah Nic Dwa Razy (W. Szymborska) Tekst – (Lyrics)
Nothing happens twice
and it won’t. Of this reason
we were born out of repetition
and we will die without routine.
Even if we were students
the most inexpensive school in the world,
we will not repeat
no winter or seasonal.
No day will repeat itself
no two nights are alike
two of the same kisses
two undistinguishable looks in the eyes.
Yesterday, when your name
someone marked aloud to me
I felt like a rose
a window burst through the open window.
Today, when we are together
I turned my face to the wall.
Rose? What does a rose look like?
Is it a flower? Or maybe a stone?
Why are you, lousy hour,
you mix with unnecessary fear?
You are – so you must pass.
You will pass – so it is beautiful.
Smiling, sympathetic
we will try to seek consent,
although we are dissimilar from each other
like two drops of pure water.
Sanah – Nic Dwa Razy
The first stanza establishes the poem’s theme in its very first words: “Nothing happens twice.” How obvious it is. It sounds severe and gloomy. The poet adds: “And it won’t happen.” In this way, he emphasizes the finality of his statement. We cannot oppose the passing of time or prevent it. We only come into the world once; once we leave, it’s gone forever. Man is subject to the natural laws of biology, and there is no appeal from this principle. This is a universal truth; it applies to everyone without exception – let’s think together about the consequences and feelings the passing of time evokes in us.
Although the second stanza illustrates the thesis in the first one, it is slightly different. Notice the word “repeat”. It does not evoke positive associations; it is the opposite. Would you like to repeat a year in the same class? The answer is obvious. We are all curious about tomorrow and eager for news experiences. This school metaphor used wittily, refers to life in general. The mood of this stanza is more cheerful, although there is still sadness that everything is leaving and changing.
The third stanza introduces, still in the context of transience, the theme of love that is engaging for everyone. This stanza connects the first part of the poem – general and the second – more personal.
More Story
Two more stanzas: We get to know in a snapshot the story of a pair of lovers. At first, they are happy; every day and night brings new, unique experiences, kisses, and glances – each with a different emotional charge. Why can’t these moments, if they bring so much happiness, last forever and be repeated? Later, the relation between the lovers changes: saying the name of the beloved no longer causes tremors; the rose puts out its thorns. Shared moments are no longer truly shared but separate – “I turned my face to the wall.” The spell breaks, feelings change, love fades, anger and sadness appear. It is a sequence of changing images.
The sixth stanza contains a conclusion from the previous considerations, formulated humorously (referring to the “bad hour”). As everything passes, sorrows and worries disappear – the “bad hour.”
Verse seven. And the better times are coming back again. The lovers try to find understanding and happiness, despite their differences (“different as two drops of pure water”), in closeness and harmony.
Sanah Nic Dwa Razy (W. Szymborska) Tekst – Interpretation
The song “Nothing Twice” is one of the most famous poems by Wisława Szymborska. It stands out among the poet’s other works for its strong rhythmic and regular structure. For this reason, many composers have set the poem to music. With proper arrangement, the song meets the requirements of an entertainment song. It was performed in several formats – by Łucja Prus, Janusz Radek, the Maanam band, and Sanah.
Sanah Nic Dwa Razy (W. Szymborska) Tekst – Song Analysis
The work is written in syllabotonic verse, which is rare in Szymborska’s position. A constant number of syllables characterizes it, and stresses are evenly distributed throughout the line. The poem consists of seven four-line stanzas written in eight syllables. Most of the rhymes are order; female verses are usually found in the second and fourth lines of the stanza. This enhances the melodic effective. Enjambments also add rhythm, as parts of a sentence move to the following line.
The regular structure makes the text similar to a song. Variable intonation adds dynamics, and there are declarative and interrogative sentences (“A rose? What does a rose look like?”). The lyrical subject addresses abstract concepts with an apostrophe, expressing his confusion (“Why are you worry, evil hour“). Emotional character is given by metaphorical comparisons (“It was like a rose falling through an open window”). They emphasize the paradox of the situation in which the lyrical subject finds himself (“We are different from each other, like two drops of pure water”). The poet used the method of “counting to two” (“twice,” “two kisses,” “two glances,” “two drops of water“) and the juxtaposition of opposites, on the principle we are born – we will die, day – night, winter – summer, yesterday – today.
Sanah Nic Dwa Razy (W. Szymborska) Tekst Poem – Song
The song Nothing Twice is very rhythmic. It consists of seven four-line stanzas and is a very regular eight-syllable structure. The stanzas are smooth and melodic; the rhyme scheme is feminine – each time, the second and fourth lines are subject to them. Such a regular structure, the gentle optimism of the piece, the importance of the philosophical message, and the simplicity of the language resulted in the creation of two musical versions. It became a hit in the repertoire of Łucja Prus and was also popular in the form of the song Kora.
Sanah Nic Dwa Razy (W. Szymborska) Tekst- Interpretation of the Song
The casual nature of the poem contrasts with the topic of transience. It has present in poetry since ancient times, but it was usually discussed in a pathetic, severe, and depressing way. Szymborska treat the motif of ancient origin with her usual lightness. The form suggests that the fact of the transience of human life is trivial and does not evoke negative emotions.
